Film

Sponsored by XARTs Grant and Oberlin International Summer Fellowship, The Peanut Sauce Project 2560 is a documentary series that explores marginalized groups in Thailand's education system through a cross-cultural lens. The name Peanut Sauce comes from a misconception of a foreign culture, such that Americans perceive peanut sauce as a feature of Thai cuisine but in fact, it is only a topping for “Satay”, a single Thai dish. We seek to create films as a media to connect people on the opposite sides of the globe through friendship and mutual empathy. Following the Buddhist calendar, 2560 is the year equivalent of 2017.

Good Morning Teacher

Set in Phetchabun, Thailand, Good Morning Teacher captures our Peanut Sauce team's engagement with Ban Phot Community School, a public school, on various creative projects. Since international communication for educational and socioeconomic collaboration is increasingly crucial in the growing ASEAN community, we also create an English learning environment for students. I hope that this film will be useful for many, from Thailand and other places alike, to understand this part of Thailand's education system that often doesn't get enough attention from organizations and individuals based in bigger cities.

The Untranslatable Connection

The Untranslatable Connection takes place at Phetchabun School for the Deaf, a boarding school that provides education for students with hearing and learning disabilities. We are grateful to become friends with the students at the school and learn about special education since in my experience the inclusion of people with disabilities is lacking in Thailand.

Accordingly

The history of Chinese immigration in Thailand is minimally included in Thailand's academic curriculum, despite 40% of Thailand's population being of Chinese descent. Accordingly connects with Chinese-Thai communities in Bangkok Chinatown to explore the role of education on Chinese heritage in Thailand.
