Bring Me Home

As part of a group show by students of Advanced Individual Projects, I did a project about my international friends at Oberlin, the community I have always been supported by and had meaningful and globally-aware discussions with. First, I did some online research about my friends' home countries and drew my friends based on how I pictured where they grew up. I then asked my friends for thoughts on the images, whether they saw some misrepresentations, and for anything else they would like to share about their life at home. We had some very fun conversations that went on much longer than how much I had originally asked their time for. I'm thankful that this project got us to talk about things that we, surprisingly, never had an in-depth conversation about.

Having learned more from my friends, I made new drawings that depicted them in cultural contexts that were more accurate to how they saw themselves in their home countries. I presented the drawings along with audio recordings of our conversations.
